10th February 2001 HSC Code for Directors In the UK, the proposed Health & Safety Commission Code of Practice on Directors' responsibilities for health & safety will require, among other things, directors to consider in full the health & safety ramifications of their decisions including investment decisions, capital projects and other significant changes and to ensure that effective management systems are in place. The Code makes explicit that the HSC regard a board's health & safety responsibilities to be an integral part of their corporate governance responsibilities. The Code contains five Action Points for boards, including the recommendation that one of their number is appointed as Health & Safety Director to provide, among other things, focus and feedback. Public comments to the draft must be received no later than 9 March 2001. Free copies of the draft are available from www.hse.gov.uk/condocs.
